Ahead of Safer Internet Day, celebrated on February 9th to promote safer and more responsible use of online technology and cell phones, there will be debate and discussion on Twitter about how 2020 will be in terms of cyber security. In this era of technology, the current generation depends on the internet for almost everything, making it a breeding ground for cyber criminals.

Over the past year, cyber attacks from work from home and various other factors have increased, and are expected to increase at an unprecedented rate in 2021. Against this background, Safer Internet Day will be celebrated on February 9th. It was first initiated in Europe in 2004 and by 2009 it had spread around the world outside Europe with the participation of various committees and companies. More than 150 countries around the world are currently celebrating Safer Internet Day.

It can be celebrated by spreading awareness and training people to prepare and respond to cyber threats. Several organizations celebrate Safer Internet Day with webinars or podcasts on the subject of online safety.

In a report on Indian internet usage habits published by OLX, internet usage by Indians increased by 50% due to the pandemic and also led to an increase in cyber fraud in 61% of Indian households. The focus on the right to privacy has led 81% of Indian internet users to stop using or consider not using certain apps. Additionally, 45% of users said they review messages or information shared online before responding.

According to the study, 58% of respondents indicated that all family members access the internet frequently, while 15% indicated that the primary users of the internet in their household were elderly members. Meanwhile, 82% said they were aware of the increasing number of cyber fraud cases that arose during the pandemic.
