The Volkswagen Taigun SUV 2021 celebrated its world premiere at the end of March and gave the world a first glimpse into the brand new mid-range SUV from Volkswagen for the Indian market. Today, the interior of the Volkswagen Taigun was revealed in renderings shared during an online design workshop. This gives a glimpse into the Group’s second model, which was introduced after the Skoda Kushaq as part of VW’s ambitious India 2.0 plan. The renderings confirm that the interior of the Volkswagen Taigun in terms of standard equipment is largely identical to that of the concept shown in 2020, but with a few small changes.
2021 Volkswagen Taigun interior and equipment
The main difference to the production version of the interior of the Volkswagen Taigun is the lack of body-colored elements in the interior. The concept called for a fairing done in the same color as the exterior of the SUV, but the production model appears to have taken a safer approach and has a gray and black color scheme. High-quality GT variants of the Volkswagen Taigun are also expected to add some sporty accents, including contrasting stitching and red accents.

Apart from that, the Volkswagen Taigun is known from the inside. At the center of the neat-looking dashboard is a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and the center console has just a handful of buttons. Underneath is the touch panel for climate control, and a key difference between the Taigun and the Kushaq is the presence of a digital instrument display, which is missing in the Skoda.
The top variants from Volkswagen Taigun are equipped with ventilated front seats, automatic air conditioning and a height-adjustable driver’s seat. The safety equipment includes up to six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), hill start control, cruise control and a tire pressure monitor.
2021 Volkswagen Taigun design and platform details
Volkswagen Taigun pictures confirm that the standard SUV remains largely identical to the concept presented in 2020. It retains almost all of the design and style elements of the concept, with the only changes being the addition of chrome trim for the door handles and a smaller alloy wheels and the removal of the C-pillar stickers. Other notable design elements include black taillights (which emphasize the width of the Taigun), man-made front and rear skid plates, heavy body panels, distinctive roof rails, and chunky alloy wheels.

The Taigun is based on the MQB A0 IN platform from Volkswagen AG, which is tailor-made for India and can accommodate up to 95 percent local content and also forms the basis for the Taigun and the new sedans from Skoda and Volkswagen, which are due at the end of this year. The Volkswagen Taigun has a wheelbase of 2,651mm, which is 41mm longer than that of the king of India’s midsize SUV space, the Hyundai Creta.
2021 Motorwagen Taigun engine and transmission details
The Volkswagen Taigun will be equipped with two turbo gasoline engines – a 1.0-liter three-cylinder with 110 hp and a 1.5-liter three-cylinder with 150 hp. A six-speed manual gearbox is standard on both engines, but the 1.0-liter version will also be available with a six-speed torque converter automatic, while the 1.5-liter model will have the option of a seven-speed dual clutch automatic (DSG). Anyone looking for a diesel SUV will be disappointed because the Taigun is not offered with a diesel engine.
Estimated price and competitors for 2021 Volkswagen Taigun
With 92 percent localization from the start, the Volkswagen Taigun is expected to hit the market at a competitive starting price at the start of the Christmas season this year. Expect Volkswagen Taigun prices to be in the 11-17 rupee (ex showroom) range, which will give it the momentum it needs to compete against established players in the segment like the Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos.
