The Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology of the United Arab Emirates (MoIAT) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation to strengthen industrial cooperation on hydrogen fuel technology. In line with their shared goal of developing sustainable and reduced or zero-emission energy sources and achieving a climate-neutral industrial sector while ensuring its continued growth, the collaboration will explore ways to support the production, storage and transportation of hydrogen fuel.
The MoU was presented on the sidelines of the 37th edition of the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition & Conference (Adipec 2021) by Dr.
By participating in Adipec 2021 under the motto “Make it in the Emirates”, MoIAT aims to highlight the competitive advantages of the UAE’s industrial sector and present the investment opportunities to international delegations. In addition, MoIAT shows the ability of local industrial companies to enter into partnerships that contribute to a healthy exchange of knowledge and know-how and also reach international markets.
“The MoU is in line with the strategic vision of our management – to build new international partnerships and strengthen existing ones in order to support sustainable development. The collaboration with Russia’s Ministry of Industry and Trade on hydrogen fuel complements our nations’ longstanding relationship and reflects new guidelines for finding clean and sustainable sources of energy, especially as the world economy begins to recover from the effects of Covid-19, “said Al Jaber.
“This collaboration strengthens the strong partnership between the United Arab Emirates and the Russian Federation, particularly bilateral investments focused on priority sectors such as industry, information technology, infrastructure, petrochemicals and energy, all of which are cornerstones for hydrogen fuel. In recognition of the global need for low-emission energy sources, hydrogen will fundamentally change the future of the energy and industrial sectors. “
The United Arab Emirates have made significant advances in their hydrogen production, reaching approximately 300,000 tons annually through Adnoc’s downstream facilities. In addition, Mubadala, Adnoc and ADQ formed the Abu Dhabi Hydrogen Alliance to develop a roadmap to accelerate the adoption and use of hydrogen in the UAE in key sectors. Another pioneering initiative is the Green Hydrogen Project in the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park in Dubai, a first project of its kind in the Mena region, which was developed in collaboration with Dewa, Expo 2020 Dubai and Siemens Energy.
Manturov said: “Taking into account the global importance of the search for low-carbon but energy-intensive and universal technological solutions, we also presented our colleagues from the United Arab Emirates with the atlas of Russian projects on low-carbon and non-carbon hydrogen and ammonia, which is already 41 projects in total Russia has. “
The MoU between ministries will offer promising opportunities to develop the hydrogen sector through international knowledge and technology exchange. It also strengthens trade and economic ties between the UAE and the Russian Federation and complements the Science, Technology and Civil Industry MoU signed in 2017.
As part of the MoU, both parties agree to cooperate in the manufacture of equipment, in particular those used for the production, liquefaction and use of raw hydrogen and fuel mixtures that use hydrogen as the main element. In addition, the co-signatories will develop international standards for hydrogen and align relevant specialized industry standards.
In addition, the MoU promotes bilateral investments in hydrogen energy, mutual advice and the establishment of a private-sector network in both countries that promotes joint developments and the exchange of data and analyzes. – business@khaleejtimes.com
