Tinder has developed a new feature that basically allows members to block personal contacts in the app using their phone numbers.

Tinder members can access Block Contacts from anywhere in their profile settings. From there, you can enter which of your contacts you would prefer not to see or not be seen on Tinder.

“We may not be able to save you from uncomfortable clashes at the coffee shop, but we give you more control over your experience with Tinder,” said Bernadette Morgan, Group Product Manager, Trust & Safety at Tinder, in a statement.

“We’re introducing Block Contacts as an additional resource that gives members peace of mind by giving them a carefree space to make new connections,” added AMorgan.

According to the dating app, the new feature will allow users to confidently make new connections while avoiding the awkwardness of a familiar face that they would rather not see.

Whether these contacts are already on Tinder or later download them with the same contact information, they won’t show up as a potential match.

Initially tested in India, Korea, and Japan, members who acted as blocking contacts on Tinder added about a dozen contacts to their block list.

Tinder is available in 190 countries and over 40 languages and is the top-selling non-gaming app worldwide. It has been downloaded more than 430 million times and resulted in more than 60 billion matches.
