The social media platform Twitter will start testing shopping functions on profile pages of various brands, which will allow brands to present their products.

Hoping to enter the online shopping world, Twitter will introduce the “Shops” feature, which will allow users to buy products from companies directly from their profile pages.

This feature is only enabled for a handful of brands in the US and is slowly expanding to other brands.

Users can now scroll through a range of products in the profile of the selected brands. After a small tap on the product, the customer is directed to a payment page via the retailer’s website. As soon as the payment has been made, the delivery dates of the products will be made available to the customer.

This feature came a little after Twitter tried a “Buy Now” button and also an experiment with product pages in 2015.

The announcement came a few days after Twitter announced that it would discontinue the newly introduced fleet function as it was unable to attract more users to the social media platform.

“We developed Fleets as an ephemeral way for people with less pressure to share their fleeting thoughts,” Brown says at the beginning of his blog post. However, he says the fleets were unable to increase the number of people participating in the conversation.

“… in the time since we introduced Fleets to everyone, we haven’t seen an increase in the number of new people joining the discussion with Fleets as we’d hoped …” says Brown.
