New Delhi: Twitter started accepting verification requests last week so users can get self verified and receive the coveted “Blue Tick”. The microblogging platform has accepted verification requests for the first time since 2017.

However, after a week of launch, Twitter stopped accepting new user verification requests on the platform. The company said the hiatus is temporary and that the current batch of user profiles will be checked first.

Twitter may have received more applications than expected.

Its official statement, Twitter, stated: “We are participating in review requests. So we need to pause for now to accept more while we review the ones submitted. ”

However, the microblogging platform will reopen the review soon. Twitter accepted profiles for reviewing users who are government officials and institutions, corporations, brands and organizations, news journalism and organizations, entertainment, sports and games, activists, organizers and other influential people.

Meanwhile, Twitter has started removing the verified badge from some accounts automatically. The company said it is removing the ID from accounts that “no longer meet the updated criteria for verification, such as those that are inactive or incomplete”.
