Explicit flush

Tom Ford Beauty Explicit Flush Shade and Illuminate Blush DuoTom Ford Beauty Explicit Flush Shade and Illuminate Blush Duo ($ 90.00 for 0.22 oz.) Includes two more matte blush colors – a lighter peach and a more vibrant coral – and both shades were applied and blended well on both bare skin and foundation, albeit the left side was more transparent than the right one. The right side was richer and would work on more skin tones, but the left side was so light it barely showed up on my skin tone, so this duo didn’t feel like it would work on as many skin tones as possible (with one more middle tone left hue).

Explicit flushing (left)

Explicit flushing (left) is a medium peach with warmer undertones and a semi-matte finish. There seemed to be a random, fine twinkle in it, but I didn’t feel like it would carry over to the finish after applying it to my skin as it just looked more matte in practice.

It had medium buildable paint coverage with a soft, finely ground texture that felt almost creamy to the touch because it was so silky. The blush was applied evenly to bare skin and lightly blended, although this shade only barely showed up on my skin tone (for reference). It took a good eight hours before it visibly faded.

Formula overview

The formula should be “silk-smooth” with “semi-matt and highlighting colors” for a “light-reflecting” shine. I would describe the finish as matte, and it would be a stretch to even say semi-matte, but the powders were silky, smooth, and mixable, and sat well on bare skin without emphasizing texture or dryness. I had actually gone through a real dryness with my skin when I eyed and tested this range!

The brand made no claims about opacity, and my experience with these showed that they were quite pigmented – usually semi-opaque and buildable – but could be used with a lighter hand or a less dense brush for more transparent, buildable opacity if desired. The coverage was versatile and seemed sufficient for those who prefer more pigmentation but not something that requires a very light hand to start with.

The most impressive thing about the formula was how well it applied to bare skin and foundation while it was still damp; More matte finishes tend to “stick” and go on mottled and often need to be applied over a matte base. I didn’t have any of these problems with the shades I tested; They were wonderful to apply to bare skin and were easy to blend.

They lasted between eight and nine hours with me before they faded a little.

Explicit flush (right)

Explicit flush (right) is a lively, medium-dark orange-coral with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had almost opaque pigmentation in a single layer that could be used from the start with a lighter hand for less intense coverage. The texture was smooth, silky, and very finely ground without being powdery. It was applied evenly to bare skin and spread it well around the edges. This shade lasted well for nine hours before showing signs of fading.
