The United States has indicted three North Korean hackers who stole $ 1.3 billion in money and cryptocurrency for the regime’s military.
The indictment alleges that Jon Chang Hyok, 31, Kim Il, 27, and Park Jin Hyok, 36, stole money while they were working for North Korean military intelligence.

The Justice Department charged the three hackers with a wide range of global and destructive hacks, including fighting banks and a movie studio, according to federal prosecutors.
The resealed indictment builds on an earlier criminal case from 2018 and adds two additional North Korean defendants.
Officials added that a Canadian-American citizen pleaded guilty to laundering some of the alleged hackers’ money.
“As set out in today’s indictment, North Korea’s employees who use keyboards instead of guns and steal digital wallets with cryptocurrency instead of money bags are the world’s leading bank robbers,” Deputy Attorney General John Demers, the Justice Department’s top national security officer, told reporters .
According to a Justice Department statement, the three hackers committed a wide range of financial and cyber crimes, “from ransomware attacks and phishing campaigns to digital bank robberies and sophisticated money laundering operations.”
According to official information, the conspiracy also includes the 2014 cyber attack on Sony Pictures in retaliation for the film “The Interview,” which showed the murder of the North Korean leader and the AMC theaters.
Between 2015 and 2019, the hackers attempted to steal more than $ 1.2 billion from banks in Vietnam, Bangladesh, Taiwan, Mexico, Malta and Africa by hacking banks’ computer networks and sending fraudulent messages.

The hackers are also accused of attacking hundreds of cryptocurrency companies and stealing millions of dollars’ worth of cryptocurrency.
According to official sources, the hackers are also accused of stealing $ 6.1 million from BankIslami Pakistan Limited and of developing the destructive WannaCry 2.0 ransomware in 2017.
They add that the three hackers are responsible for developing malicious cryptocurrency applications like Celas Trade Pro, WorldBit-Bot, iCryptoFx, Union Crypto Trader, Kupay Wallet, CoinGo Trade, Dorusio, CryptoNeuro Trader and Ants2Whale, which give them back doors into the computers of the Gave sacrifices.
