Why should someone want to forego the smell and feel of a new hard cover?
Why should anyone forego the joy of entering a library or bookstore in the middle of the cobbled streets of a market?
Why should one forego the nostalgia of clinging to a first edition just to be reminded of carefree childhood days?

These are the questions that go through my head every time someone says the word “e-book”. The answer is always the same – convenience trumps nostalgia.
Technology is making us all adapt to new habits, new lifestyles, and new forms of relaxation.
The new Kindle Paperwhite is my newest technological addiction.
For all of the naysayers who have already denounced this review because nothing beats the adventures of diving deep into a hardcover for them, listen to me.
What if I told you that you can store thousands of books in this device? What if I told you that you can slip it in your purse or laptop bag without running out of battery in the middle of a nerve-wracking thriller act or that you can read in peace at night without needing a night light or disturbing your partner ?
Still not convinced? Here is my review of the new one Kindle Paperwhite. The Paperwhite is available for 13,999 rupees and is available in black with 8 GB of storage. There is also a more expensive price for the ‘Signature’ edition of Rs 17,999 with a larger storage option of 32GB.
Set up your Kindle
Setting up your new Kindle is easy. Turn it on and follow the instructions on the screen. I would recommend pairing the Kindle Paperwhite with the Kindle app on your smartphone and registering your device. If you are already a user, your purchased books will automatically show up. Visit the Kindle Store and its virtual library to discover more.
Put it in your purse or duffel bag
The main selling point for the Kindle has always been its portability, how easily it can be put in your hand luggage without weighing you down. The new Kindle Paperwhite weighs only 205 grams, is easy to hold in one hand and resembles a really thin tablet. The 6.8-inch display offers enough space to enjoy your favorite book under the winter sun, in a cozy café, on a busy subway ride or even under the covers.
If you are an ordinary Kindle user, at first glance you won’t notice any differences from the new model. The rectangular plate is easy to hold and use. The larger screen in combination with a resolution of 300 ppi ensures that you can leaf through your favorite book without straining your eyes. I also really liked the warm backlight that comes in when reading at night, which doesn’t disturb your partner or bedmate. You also get more backlight LEDs that are only noticeable if you use the device for hours at a time.
This Kindle is not going to die in the middle of a plot
The new Kindle offers a battery life of 10 weeks. I usually take all claims with caution, as the lifespan of a device and battery life always depend on the lifestyle and habits of the user. I’ve been using the Kindle Paperwhite for about four weeks now and still need to charge it. If you turn on Airplane Mode on the Kindle, the battery will easily hit 10 week battery life in my opinion. However, when you connect your Kindle to Wi-Fi, you can look up complex words on a low battery life.
Let us tell you the most exciting aspect of the new Kindle. Unfortunately, you received a USB-C charger. The same cable you use for your phones, tablets, and even laptops can now be used to charge your Kindle. This makes life easier for the user and reduces the cable clutter in the travel bag. I would definitely use my Kindle for my next vacation just to charge multiple devices with a single cable. Even if you do need to charge your Kindle, it can be done in about 2.5 hours or so.
Read by the pool, but at your own risk!
If you are lucky enough to have a bathtub at home or want to go on a beach vacation, you can take the Kindle with you as it comes with an IPX8 rating, which means it is “waterproof”. However, please do not immerse it in water. But a spill here or a fall there won’t harm your Kindle.
Should you buy it?
At nearly Rs 14,000, it’s not an “affordable” investment. However, I know avid readers who scour narrow alleys in busy markets to find a book and immerse themselves in a plot for days. For these readers, the Kindle Paperwhite is a great investment. If you already have a Paperwhite edition I wouldn’t recommend upgrading, but for first-time buyers this is the perfect Kindle.
I also recommend trying out features like the auto-adjusting front light and dark mode, which makes nighttime reading easier for the eyes.
Faster and smoother than its predecessor, the new Kindle Paperwhite comes pretty close to the feeling of a real hard cover without the need for great lighting to enjoy your favorite book. When the holiday season approaches, the Kindle Paperwhite also makes a great gift for friends and family.
After all, what could be a better gift than one that stimulates reading?
