A WOMAN arrested for stabbing her husband asked police if she could get her money back on a cruise vacation, as a court tried yesterday.

Retired accountant Penny Jackson, 66, was in a holding cell when she said, “Do you think P&O will offer a discount?”

She was supposed to go on the trip with the 78-year-old husband David, a former lieutenant colonel.

The “comfortable away” couple had booked five cruises, including the Canary Islands and the Caribbean, but they had been postponed due to Covid.

But she had killed him at her home in Berrow, Somerset – claiming she had finally caught after decades of physical, sexual, and emotional abuse.

Jackson told the Bristol Crown Court that he threatened her with a poker one consecutive Christmas because of a TV remote control.

The jury was shown a video filmed on the defendant’s cell phone of the couple rowing on the TV remote control.

Jackson related how her husband picked up a poker – the first time he’d picked up something to hit her with.

She said, “Even though we had problems and he was controlling and angry, he had never used a poker. It was a stupid argument and escalated. ”

She denies murder but admits manslaughter.
