A 27-year-old businessman attempted insurance fraud by orchestrating the theft of his white SUV Volkswagen PYY 7703 with $ 500,000 in cash and several important documents.

The businessman reported to police on Wednesday evening that the vehicle was stolen after leaving the keys in the ignition and picking up food at a Chinese restaurant on Alexander Street in Kitty Georgetown.

The police headquarters announced on Thursday evening that the businessman then confessed to the detectives of the CID that the theft had been staged. According to police, the man said the incident was staged by him and a friend.

“The 27-year-old claimed to have staged the incident because he was frustrated after being involved in an accident with the vehicle and the insurance company refused to pay him for the damage, stating that the vehicle was about to be destroyed to destroy it to get insurance benefit, “reported the police.

The vehicle was found abandoned on Thursday in Ogle, East Coast Demerara.

The businessman reported to police that the vehicle was parked in front of Seepaul’s Sports Bar while the driver entered the restaurant and later came out to find the vehicle missing.

He is said to have left several means of land transport, copies of the land purchase agreement and all relevant documents about the vehicle (registration, fitness, insurance certificate and tax certificate) in the vehicle.

The businessman was arrested and taken into custody.
