Chennai: The Dr. MGR Medical University in Tamilnadu suspended faculties in four departments of Stanley State Medical College and Chennai Hospital from a board of examiners after a man complained that his daughter failed in one of the clinical papers in her senior year because she did Rs 10,000 unpaid required from students. The Tamilnadu government has also asked the university to conduct an impartial investigation into the allegedly unauthorized collection of at least Rs 22 lakh from senior year MBBS students on behalf of conducting practical exams. The names of the internal examiners from the medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology and pediatrics departments have been temporarily removed from the university’s examination board, subject to approval by the examination board, the report says. In his complaint, the parent said that last year students received messages demanding rupees 10,000 each “to organize room and board” for outside examiners and “show gratitude to the department” as it is “normal practice” . His daughter, who did not pay the money, failed the test in May with 7 marks.
