Twitch, the world’s largest game streaming portal, announced on Wednesday that it is enabling several new labels for videos. Now, users can add a transgender label to their videos among many. The gambling company hopes this move would encourage inclusion among its gamblers.
Every day, 30 million players log into Twitch owned by Amazon, which allows people to broadcast themselves while playing video games.
According to Reuters, the 350 new tags include “transgender”, “bisexual”, “black” and “disabled”. These tags are essentially labels that gamers can add to their clips.
“This was one of the most popular requests we’ve heard and the simple truth is we should have done this sooner,” Twitch said in a blog post last week. The news was officially made available to users on Wednesday.

More recently, technology companies are being scrutinized to make their products more inclusive and represent the transgender community. Instagram and LinkedIn recently allowed users to add their pronouns to their profiles.
Data from Twitch Tracker says that 70 percent of users are between 13 and 34 years old. Together they see 68-73 million hours of gameplay every day.
But there is still a long way to go. In the United States alone, 18 bills against LGBTQIA + were signed in 2021 to prevent trans teenagers from exercising or seeking medical help.
