New Delhi: Popular social media app Snapchat updates its visual search capabilities and puts them at the center of its app. The app is now introducing changes that it announced back in May during its Partner Summit event. The updates include a more prominent placement of the “Scan” feature – now right below the camera’s shutter button – and new features that suggest lenses and music based on your surroundings.
Snap has been experimenting with visual search called “scan” since 2019. The feature enables Snapchat users to identify plants and music, solve math problems, and scan food and wine labels with the in-app camera, reports Engadget.
But so far, much of this functionality has been easily overlooked, as it required a few extra taps of the finger to access it. With the update that has just been introduced, “Scan” is always visible when the camera is open, the report says.
Snapchat is also adding some new features that were previewed earlier this year, like the ability to shop for outfits by pointing the camera at items of clothing. It also adds camera shortcuts that suggest a combination of augmented reality lenses and music based on your surroundings. Also Read: WhatsApp Fraud Alert! The company has also built scanning capabilities into its latest AR Spectacles, which can similarly suggest lenses based on your environment (unlike previous versions of Spectacles, the latest are not yet sold).
