Microsoft has developed a new function for its Skype platform. This time it has brought noise cancellation to its desktop version.

In the blog post, the Skype team states that this technology was originally developed for Microsoft teams. “We’re excited to announce the release of our latest background noise suppression feature in the Skype desktop app. This new feature was originally developed for Microsoft Teams and is designed to silence almost everything but your voice when you meet on Skype, ”she added.

The new feature is located under the Settings option and can be toggled with different options – Auto, Low and High.

In particular, the noise cancellation feature isn’t yet available on the web or mobile versions of Skype, but you can also download it in Windows desktop apps and on Mac.

The blog post added that the new noise cancellation technology analyzes your audio feed and uses trained deep neural networks to remove the noise without affecting the speaker’s voice.

“This technology is based on machine learning (ML) to learn the difference between clean language and noise and is often referred to as artificial intelligence (AI). A representative set of data is used to train the ML model to work in most situations our Skype users experience. The dataset needs to be sufficiently diverse in terms of clean speech, types of noise and the environments from which our users participate in online calls, ”the post says.
