EMMANUEL PETIT has asked Chelsea to extend Antonio Rudiger’s contract until the end of the season to prevent him from leaving for free.

The defender is said to be extremely unhappy with the club after failing to meet his £ 60,000 wage demands.

Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich should all be interested in the Chelsea man, who has played a key role for Thomas Tuchel since he took office earlier this year.

Rudiger has expressed his wish to stay at Stamford Bridge beyond the summer, but only if the Blues raise his salaries.

Speaking to Bookmakers.com, the former Chelsea Petit midfielder said: “He looks like one of the best defenders out there.

“He could go for free and Chelsea would have to spend at least £ 30m to find a new defender of his level and there is never any guarantee that a purchase will work.

“This guy is a survivor. Ever since Tuchel became a coach, he’s been one of the best defenders in world football.

“If he asks for two more years, just give him the money.”

Chelsea have recently been linked with Juventus star Matthijs de Ligt, who could potentially act as a replacement for Rüdiger should he leave the club.
