One lucky Scottish couple were thrilled to win £ 5 million in the National Lottery.

Paul and Louise Drake, 47, of Seafield, West Lothian, were both key workers during the pandemic and have now landed a life changing jackpot.

The couple have two sons, 15 and 11, with Paul recently quitting his job as a production worker at Lidl and Louise working as a district nurse.

For the golf and car fanatic, discovering his life-changing win certainly gave him the early morning kick he needed as he hit the road to work.

He said: “I share the car with two colleagues and it was my turn to take over the driving.

“It was about 4:30 in the morning and I was just getting into the car when I had this nagging feeling about checking my Lotto Lucky Dip numbers. I checked my ticket and just sat there in shock.

“Well, I’m not the emotional type, but I just burst into tears. I ran back into the house screaming and woke Louise to tell her. We just couldn’t believe it.

“Since I was the designated driver that day, I had to pick the guys up for work. It was so hard to keep to myself. I went to the office and just said I wouldn’t get in there that day.

“The guys I drove to work knew something was wrong and I was acting strange, so it didn’t take long for people to guess. Our friends, family and colleagues are overjoyed for us, they are really excited, which is great. “

Louise panicked when Paul stormed into the house at dawn and immediately thought something was wrong.

She said, “I was so scared something was wrong, but he screamed something about winning the lottery. At first I thought it was £ 5,000 and tried to get back to sleep. But that obviously didn’t happen! “

Car fanatic Paul already has his sights set on a Porsche and possibly a state-of-the-art Range Rover.

Louise loves to travel and wants to take the boys to New York while planning a family trip to Florida at the same time.

Paul added, “We’ve both worked hard our entire lives, just like our parents before us. This money is absolutely amazing and will change our lives dramatically financially, but we won’t let it change who we are . ” .

“I will still be chasing a bargain and I will definitely not pay £ 6.50 for a roll of bacon at the golf club.”

“I’m usually quite organized when I play, but I guess I was rushing too hard on this occasion, I probably took one of the kids to an activity!

“In the end, I only got three lucky dips.

“I can tell you, the lottery ticket didn’t leave my side for a week!”

It comes hours after it was revealed that two NHS heroes won £ 300,000 in the lottery.

Linda and Stewart Priston, of Sittingbourne, Kent, also worked on the front lines during the Covid pandemic.
