Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke at the farewell session of the 56th Conference of DGPs and IGPs in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh on Sunday. Union Interior Minister Amit Shah, Head of Intelligence Bureau (IB), Arvind Kumar, DGPs from various states and the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) attended the event. At the farewell meeting, the Prime Minister called for a high-level police technology mission to be set up to adopt future technologies for the basic police.

The meeting was attended by 62 DGPs and IGPs of the states and Union territories as well as the Directors General (GDs) of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and Central Police Organizations (CPOs). More than 400 officers of various ranks virtually attended the conference from IB offices across the country. PM Modi also awarded the Intelligence Bureau (IB) staff the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service.

PM Modi spoke at the farewell session of the 56th Conference of DGPs and IGPs and sought an analysis of all police-related incidents and developed case studies in order to turn them into an institutionalized learning mechanism.

An official statement read: “He (PM Modi) called for a high-profile police technology mission to be set up, led by the Interior Minister, to adopt future technologies for the needs of the basic police force.”

To address some of the routine police challenges, PM Modi also advocated engaging highly skilled youth to seek technological solutions through hackathons.

Union Min Amit Shah opens 56th Conference of DGPs and IGPs

Union Interior Minister Amit Shah attended the opening ceremony of the 56th Conference of DGPs and IGPs on Friday, praising the role of the security forces during the COVID-19 pandemic and the sacrifices they made. At the inauguration, Shah stressed the need for better coordination between state police forces and central authorities, and emphasized targeted measures on security-related issues such as Maoist violence and cybercrime.

In his address, Shah stressed the need to focus on security-related issues, including coastal security, left-wing extremism, drug trafficking, cybercrime and border area management. A presentation by The National Intelligence Grid (NATGRID) was also given during the conference.
