Today is the big day – after a long wait, it’s time for the Skoda Kushaq to be unveiled. The Kushaq is sure to be one of the most eagerly anticipated new launches of vehicles in 2021 and is vital to the future of the Volkswagen Group in India. The Skoda Kushaq SUV is the first model to be launched as part of the VW Group’s ambitious India 2.0 plan. Other models from the group will follow, including the Volkswagen Taigun (which is also due to hit the market in mid-2021) and replacements for the Skoda Rapid and Volkswagen Vento, both of which are expected to debut before the end of 2021.

The stock Skoda Kushaq is expected to retain most of the design and styling traits of the Vision IN concept, aside from some of the show car’s heydays. It borrows design cues from larger Skoda SUVs like the Karoq and Kodiaq, and you can expect to see split LED headlight clusters, crystal-effect LED taillights, underrun guards, heavy body panels, distinctive roof rails, and chunky alloy wheels.

The Kushaq is based on the MQB A0 IN platform of the Volkswagen Group tailored to India, which can accommodate up to 95 percent of local content and also forms the basis for the Taigun and the new sedans from Skoda and Volkswagen.

Skoda has already confirmed that higher-quality versions of the Kushaq will be equipped with automatic climate control, a height-adjustable driver’s seat and safety equipment with up to six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), hill start control, cruise control and tire pressure monitoring.

Skoda has also confirmed that the Kushaq will be equipped with two turbo gasoline engines – a 1.0-liter three-cylinder with 110 horsepower and a 1.5-liter three-cylinder with 150 horsepower. A six-speed manual gearbox is standard on both engines, but the 1.0-liter version will also be available with a six-speed torque converter automatic, while the 1.5-liter model will have the option of a seven-speed dual clutch automatic (DSG).
