Amber fascination

Pat McGrath Amber Allure Divine Blush & Glow TrioPat McGrath Amber Allure Divine Blush & Glow Trio ($ 52.00 for 0.37 oz.) Includes two permanent blush colors and a new highlighter, although I found Lovestruck to be noticeably cooler and bluer in the palette (and I’ve personally checked it three times since each blush was just released became !). When you have a warmer tone the difference between the two may be more noticeable, but when you wear it lightly the difference in undertone was less noticeable.

For reference, Pat McGrath Rouges are available for $ 38.00 each and contain 0.34 ounces. if sold individually, the price per ounce increases to $ 111.76; The highlighters are $ 48.00 each and contain 0.16 oz. or $ 300.00 / ounce. (Note: the shade included in this trio is not sold individually at the time of publication.) The brand doesn’t state if the blushes weigh more than the highlighter in the trio, and I would guess it visually weighs the same space as the highlighter despite the volume, which looks different, less.

Because each product is the same weight, the palette includes $ 27.56 worth of blush and $ 37.00 worth of highlighter for a total of $ 64.56. If I did an overall estimate, I would estimate each to be about half its normal weight, so the highlighter would be closer to 0.08 oz. (valued at $ 24 in the pallet) and the blush weighs a total of 0.29 ounces. or $ 32.41 worth of flushes for a total of $ 56.41. I think the palette seems right priced, and each offers a lot of product for many uses, less than the cost of two shades individually.

Lovestruck (Amber Allure)

Lovestruck (Amber Allure) is a lighter, medium-dark fuchsia pink with cooler, blue undertones and a semi-matte finish. It seemed pretty matte to my eye, but wasn’t completely flat on my skin when it was applied and buffed. The color, however, was cooler and bluer than the full-size custom blush I have; enough that I wanted to list it as a separate shade in the database. The consistency was finely ground, smooth and miscible and resulted in a semi-opaque, buildable pigmentation. It wore well for nine hours before it visibly faded.

Formula overview

$ 38.00 / 0.34 oz. – $ 111.76 per ounce

The formula should be “feather-light, long-lasting”, “which can easily build up from pure to subversive”. The blushes are available in two finishes – semi-matt and satin – and range from muted to livelier colors. The biggest “downside” to the formula was that it was pigmented rather than buildable so you could use a lighter hand to get more buildable coverage, but I found that I had to use a light to moderate hand to make sure that I don’t over- apply every shade.

The consistency was smooth, silky and felt slightly creamy; it was a little powdery in the pan but had more lubricity than most powder blushes on the market, but it was definitely a powder-based formula. The product is easy to apply to bare skin and over the foundation, as it diffuses well along the edges without absorbing basic products.

The satin pearl finish was bright but not overtly shimmering so it didn’t emphasize the natural texture of my skin. They carried with me for about nine hours before they visibly faded.

Paradise Venus

Paradise Venus is a muted, medium-dark red-copper with moderate, warm undertones and a semi-matt finish. The texture was soft, slightly powdery in the pan, but it was mixable and easy to pick up with different brushes. It had pretty pigmented coverage in a single pass so I really had to use a lighter hand to get really buildable coverage (as marketed) which was the big “downside” with this shade. It took a good nine hours before something faded.

Venus nectar

Venus nectar is a rich, peach-colored gold with warmer, orange undertones and a shiny, metallic finish. It had an opaque paint release in a single layer where a little bit was enough. Hence, using a lighter hand or a less dense brush would be ideal for someone looking to build up coverage. The texture felt almost soft as it was incredibly silky and smooth without being powdery or even dense / thick. It lasted a good eight and a half hours before it faded noticeably.

Formula overview

$ 48.00 / 0.16 oz. – $ 300.00 per ounce

The formula is said to have an “ultra-reflective finish” and a “silky feel” to achieve a “high intensity shine”. The texture felt softer, almost wet to the touch, although in practice it was clearly a powder-based formula.

It had mostly opaque, buildable paint coverage with a very thin, lightweight texture that applied evenly to bare skin and was easy to blend. The finish was “high intensity” but didn’t emphasize the natural texture of my skin. It wore on well for eight and a half hours before it faded a little.
