Sources at the ministry said that Bangladesh Bank (BB) had collected the updated information from Evalys accounts with deposited Tk500 crore

Trade Minister Tipu Munshi said he had received an instruction to return the money from Evaly customers.

The ministry is working on a policy and reviewing customers’ information and the related legal process is ongoing, he told reporters on Monday.

The minister spoke to journalists after a high-level meeting of the government’s committee to monitor e-commerce activities.

Sources at the ministry said that Bangladesh Bank (BB) had collected the updated information from Evalys accounts with deposited Tk500 crore.

From the amount, the central bank also received information from customers with Tk214 crore, which was paid to Evaly from July 1, 2021 to cease operating their business.

According to the sources, the headquarters cannot collect any information about the remaining Tk286 crore paid to the Evaly.

Regarding Destiny and Jubok, the minister said, “Both organizations have some assets and we can return at least half of their customers’ money if the assets could be sold legally.”

The meeting was attended by the Prime Minister’s Advisor for Private Sector Investment Salman Fazlur Rahman, the Minister for Post and Telecommunications Mustafa Jabbar, the Minister of State for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Junaid Ahmed Palak and representatives of the ministries and authorities concerned.
