A 30-year-old man made a complaint, according to police, alleging that someone dropped an envelope with a bouquet of flowers on it on September 23 at his home. The envelope contained a letter with a USB stick allegedly containing obscene videos of the complainant with his girlfriend and a letter demanding Rs 10 lakh with the threat that this video would go viral by itself the next morning if the money did not would be paid.

Five police teams were formed to investigate the matter, with a trap being laid to catch the extortionist by placing said bag in the indicated isolated location and at a specified time under the Lakshmi Nagar overpass. The blackmailer was arrested while picking up the bag at midnight.

The defendant, identified as Sameer Johry, 31, admitted that he had placed the said envelope with the USB stick and the letter of claim for Rs 10 lakh of the applicant, who turned out to be his friend for the past 7-8 years. Both worked in a software company in 2020.
