Makeup by Mario Kristen Ultra Suede LipstickMakeup by Mario Kristen Ultra Suede Lipstick ($ 24.00 for 0.14 oz.) Is a rich raspberry pink with cool undertones and a soft, matte finish. The texture was very light and thin on my lips, but the feeling was firmer, denser, but not as velvety as I experienced with similar formulas (silicone-heavy, often referred to as “soft matt”).
It had a semi-opaque, buildable pigmentation that applied evenly, but the firmer feel made it difficult to apply in one fluid motion. It lasted a good five and a half hours, left a stain, and felt slightly drying out over time.

The formula is said to be a “comfortable matte” finish that provides “full coverage” that “does not dry” and includes “smoothing gels and texturizing powder” that provides a “smooth, matte, soft appearance”. It’s a silicone heavy formula that’s thin, very light, and has a “soft matte” finish that is mostly matte, but not quite as flat at first as a true matte lipstick.
I find that this type of formula is a more common release from a variety of brands, and they don’t often have a lot of differentiation. Unfortunately, in my experience, most of these formulas have a tendency to highlight lip texture and imperfections – especially to catch dandruff, even slight dryness – and to dissolve into lip wrinkles when worn. The lighter shades tend to apply worst and look worst, while medium and deeper shades can be applied smoother and more flattering.
I noticed that the red and berry tones of the series in the tube seemed stiffer than most of the other hues in the series, and this caused the base of the lipstick to break off the twist mechanism (which broke the following sunglasses: Alicia, Kiana, Kristen, Amanda).
The pigmentation varied from a semi-opaque to an opaque covering power, with lighter shades having a purer covering power compared to deeper shades. The initial consistency was firmer in the tube, though not so severe that I pulled painfully, but I found this tends to provide less pigmentation and tends to be a better application when building shorter, overlapping strokes overall.
The formula didn’t dry out and was very light so it felt like I had nothing on, but they only wore between two and five hours with some shades exceeding that range (like a red).

Makeup by Mario Amanda Ultra Suede LipstickMakeup by Mario Amanda Ultra Suede Lipstick ($ 24.00 for 0.14 oz.) Is a deep, reddish berry with subtle, cool undertones and a soft, matte finish. It had a mostly opaque color coverage that was applied evenly and was pretty forgiving of texture imperfections on my lips, but it indented easily into my deeper lip lines.
The weaning was only noticeable after two to three hours in wearing. The consistency was dense, a little firmer in the tube with minimal gliding, so while it wasn’t painful to use, it wasn’t as smooth as ideal. It carried well for five and a half hours, leaving a faint stain, and not drying.
