Makeup by Mario Kiana Ultra Suede Lipstick ($ 24.00 for 0.14 oz.) Is a rich ruby red with cooler, blue undertones and a matte finish. It had a medium color release that could be built up to a semi-opaque cover with a second layer. The texture felt very light on my lips, but the actual lipstick was firmer and stiffer with little glide, so it pulled on my lips and wasn’t the easiest to spread evenly over my lips.
This was a shade that also broke at the base during application. The color could have been applied more evenly and the formula is not forgiving of imperfections / lip lines. It lasted well for five hours, staining, and feeling slightly drying out over time.

Formula overview
$ 24.00 / 0.14 oz. – $ 171.43 per ounce
The formula is said to be a “comfortable matte” finish that provides “full coverage” that “does not dry” and includes “smoothing gels and texturizing powder” that provides a “smooth, matte, soft appearance”. It’s a silicone-heavy formula that’s thin, very light, and has a “soft matte” finish that is mostly matte, but not quite as flat at first as a true matte lipstick.
I find that this type of formula is a more common release from a variety of brands, and they don’t often have a lot of differentiation. Unfortunately, in my experience, most of these formulas have a tendency to highlight lip texture and imperfections – especially to catch around scales, even slight dryness – and to dissolve into lip wrinkles as you wear them down. The lighter shades tend to apply worst and look worst, while medium and deeper shades can be applied smoother and look more flattering.
I noticed that the red and berry tones of the series in the tube seemed stiffer than most of the other hues in the series, and this resulted in the base of the lipstick breaking off the twist mechanism (which broke the following sunglasses: Alicia, Kiana, Kristen, Amanda).
The pigmentation varied from a semi-opaque to an opaque cover, with lighter shades having a more transparent opacity compared to deeper shades. The initial consistency was firmer in the tube, if not so severe that I pulled painfully, but I found this tends to be less pigmented and tends to be a better application when building shorter, overlapping strokes overall.
The formula didn’t dry out and was very light so it felt like I had nothing on, but they only wore on between two and five hours with some hues exceeding this range (like a red).

Makeup by Mario Lucia Ultra suede lipstick ($ 24.00 for 0.14 oz.) Is a deep mauve with cool undertones and a soft matte finish. It had almost covering pigmentation in one layer that had to be applied in shorter strokes, as the texture in the tube was a bit stiff and firm without sufficient gliding ability (even velvety, silicone-heavy gliding ability!).
The product felt very light on my lips, was thin but non-sticky, and neither dried out nor hydrated. The color was applied evenly, but it set slightly into my lip lines which was only noticeable after three hours of wearing (with a total wearing time of closer to five hours).
