Makeup by Mario Cam Ultra suede lipstick ($ 24.00 for 0.14 oz.) Is a light, peach-colored orange with moderate, warm undertones and a soft, matte finish. It had a medium amount of paint that could build up to a mostly opaque cover, but there was some transparency and a tendency for the paint to apply unevenly, brushing along the edges, and noticeably settling in my lip lines.

The consistency in the tube was light, thin and firm, which made it less pleasant to apply. It lasted three hours, with settling getting worse over time, although it neither dried nor hydrated.

Formula overview

$ 24.00 / 0.14 oz. – $ 171.43 per ounce

The formula is said to be a “comfortable matte” finish that provides “full coverage” that “does not dry” and “smoothing gels and texturizing powder” that provides a “smooth, matte, soft appearance”. It’s a silicone-heavy formula that’s thin, very light, and has a “soft matte” finish that is mostly matte, but not quite as flat at first as a true matte lipstick.

I find that this type of formula is a more common release from a variety of brands, and they don’t often have a lot of differentiation. Unfortunately, in my experience, most of these formulas tend to highlight lip texture and imperfections – especially around to catch flakes, even slight dryness – and dissolve into lip wrinkles as you wear them down. The lighter shades tend to apply worst and look worst, while medium and deeper shades can be applied smoother and more flattering.

I noticed that the red and berry tones of the series in the tube seemed stiffer than most of the other hues in the series, and this resulted in the base of the lipstick breaking off the twist mechanism (which broke the following sunglasses: Alicia, Kiana, Kristen, Amanda).

The pigmentation varied from a semi-opaque to an opaque covering power, with lighter shades having a purer covering power compared to deeper shades. The initial consistency was firmer in the tube, though not so severe that I pulled painfully, but I found this tends to provide less pigmentation and tends to be a better application when building shorter, overlapping strokes overall.

The formula didn’t dry out and was very light, making it felt like I had nothing on, but they only wore between two and five hours with some shades exceeding that range (like a red).

Makeup by Mario Annie Ultra Suede Lipstick ($ 24.00 for 0.14 oz.) Is a dusty, medium-dark coral with warmer, orange undertones and a soft, matte finish. The consistency felt very light and thinner, if not clingy, but the tube itself was a bit firm so it took more pressure to apply evenly to my lips.

It had a semi-opaque, buildable pigmentation that held up decently for four hours, but noticeably settled in my lip lines after three hours of wear. The formula felt neither drying nor moisturizing.
