AROUND 35 million Americans have not yet received their taxes thanks to an IRS arrears – but they can still track their payments even after a few months.

The IRS has paid out stimulus checks, adjusted returns, and calculated a number of other credits – like the most recent child tax credit – that added the agency’s backlog.

If you have not yet received your tax refund, you can follow it online

That means nearly 35 million Americans are still waiting for their tax returns, according to a report by the National Taxpayer Advocate.

But if you’re one of those 35 million, fear not – you can still use some IRS tools to keep track of your payments.

The IRS tracker tool enables Americans to check the status of their 2020 income tax refund by providing some information that you use when filing taxes.

This includes your Social Security or Tax ID number, enrollment status (if you are single, married, or a head of household), and your reimbursement amount in whole dollars.

Due to the heavy backlog and long call times, the IRS warns it is better to leave the phone as a last resort and check online instead.

Also, make sure to check in at least 24 hours after your taxes have been filed to keep track of them.

The IRS also has a phone app called IRS2Go for those who would rather check their tax refunds while waiting for their morning commute to work.

The agency updates the data overnight. So if you don’t see anything within 24 hours, check back the next day.

After your return and refund are approved, you will be given a personalized date to expect your money.
