Tata Elxsi and Green Hills Software today announced their collaboration for a Driver Monitoring System (DMS) platform that integrates advanced DMS software (VOEOSYS – Vehicle Operator Environment Observation System) and AUTOSAR Adaptive from Tata Elxsi with secure INTEGRITY real-time operation Green Hills Software’s System (RTOS) optimized to run on the latest families of automotive grade microprocessors. This flexible and standards-based DMS platform enables OEMs and tier 1 suppliers to reduce time, costs and complexity in the development and provision of their DMS-compliant ADAS systems while at the same time meeting the binding global security requirements.
A driver monitoring system helps address the growing safety risks posed by distracted and drowsy drivers and also provides the essential assurance that a driver is ready to take control of an autonomous driving system.
The Euro New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) already requires DMS for five-star safety ratings, while the European general safety regulation has prescribed DMS technology for all new cars, vans, trucks and buses from CY2024
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recommends the use of DMS as an effective means of driver engagement in Level 2 vehicles, and US Congress is pushing for DMS in all new US automobiles within six (6) years.
NHTSA estimates that distracted driving is responsible for more than 3,100 deaths each year in the United States alone.

The integrated AUTOSAR Adaptive-based DMS from Tata Elxsi and Green Hills Software provides an intelligent determination of the readiness and alertness of the driver and runs on the secure INTEGRITY-based high-performance platform, which has already proven itself a million times over.
Tata Elxsi’s DMS software detects distracted and drowsy drivers with the help of its hybrid vision-pipeline architecture, which intelligently combines vehicle data (direction, speed) with the driver’s line of sight, head orientation and facial expression.
The basic hardware platform has been validated on many camera types such as IR, NIR, HDR, webcam, monochrome and custom camera modules.
The functional safety-compliant AUTOSAR Adaptive Stack from Tata Elxsi is based on 19.11 and is supplied with a function-rich configuration tool.

Availability
The first version of the INTEGRITY-based driver monitoring system from Tata Elxsi and Green Hills Software is available today for early access customers and runs on the Renesas R-Car. The DMS is portable to other leading automotive processors such as those from NXP, Texas Instruments and Qualcomm.
