JEREMY Clarkson is amazed that Amanda Owen of Our Yorkshire Farm is making money as a shepherdess on her “brutal” estate.
The 61-year-old Jeremy has had a 1,000-acre farm since 2008, which he did not take over until 2019.

His first foray into farming is being explored in his new Amazon Prime Video series Clarkson’s Farm, and Jeremy admits it was a steep learning curve.
In addition to planting seeds and growing crops in his fields, Jeremy bought a flock of sheep, but quickly learned that caring for it costs more than making it from wool or meat.
He had great respect for Amanda, 46, and her husband Clive, who run Ravenseat Farm in the Yorkshire Dales and document Our Yorkshire Farm on the Channel 5 show.
Speaking to The Sun Online about his new show, Jeremy said, “Sheep are difficult to keep and they don’t make money.

“When you shear a sheep, it costs £ 1.45 to shear and the wool is worth 30p. It’s not really a business proposition.”
Jeremy wondered how Amanda and Clive can make money from their own flock of sheep and the weather conditions they work in when he added, “The Yorkshire Shepherdess, I have the greatest respect for their way of life as I know this part of the world And it’s brutal up there in winter. It is not easy. “
Jeremy had a lot of weather related problems when he started his new life as a farmer.
He said, “We have been farming for two years now, my head is just full of farming.

“Setbacks were weather, weather, weather, Brexit, weather, Covid, weather and sheep.
“Five different weather records were set over a period of 12 months. Every farmer here said,” You couldn’t have chosen a worse year to start farming. ”
He continued, “We couldn’t even get seeds in the ground because it didn’t stop raining for nine weeks.
“And then everything boiled before we could get it out of the ground [because of the heat], and yes, I see the irony of getting screwed up in global warming and climate change. ”
Clarkson’s Farm will be released on Amazon Prime Video on Friday, June 11th.
