It is now time to show the world that the next tech giants are being born in India, with the largest digitally connected open marketplace waiting to be harnessed and monetized, Pawan Munjal Chairman and CEO said on Sunday.
As the main guest, he spoke before the 10th convocation of the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar and urged the graduates to seize the opportunities and challenges offered by “the largest digitally networked open marketplace”.
“With a lot of New Age ideas flown in from America like Amazon, Apple, Facebook, Netflix, Twitter, Uber, now is the time to take on the challenge and show the world that the next tech giants will be Born from India, “said Munjal in his address to the graduates.
The numbers also indicate the possibility, with up to 700 million Indians online and connected to the world, making them “perhaps the largest networked gathering in the world after China,” he said.
“We have over a billion telecommunications connections in India, and on average an Indian consumes a huge 14 GB of data every month at one of the cheapest internet tariffs in the world, the cheapest tariffs in the world,” he said, asking if not the largest digitally connected open marketplace waiting to be used and monetized.
“Digital will surely become the backbone of everything we all do, be it shopping, ordering food and groceries, buying electronics, cars, motorcycles, scooters or connecting with families, friends and loved ones and, as of recently, even going to school. College and office, “he said, adding that this was just the tip of the iceberg.
“If in the past two decades countries like China and Vietnam have become the manufacturing centers of the world, now is the time for India to take its rightful place in the world economy under the leadership of determined political leadership,” he said.
Munjal mentioned the O2 Arena 2011 event in London, where Hero MotoCorp unveiled its logo and introduced its new name after its partnership with Japan’s Honda ended in their former joint venture Hero Honda as the company celebrates a decade of solo activity in India.
He said the time now is to make the most of Indian-related traits such as “ingenuity, demographic dividend, and our never-say-the-mind” “and that the young graduates need to lead the way from the front.
In his convocation speech, Munjal also spoke about his father Brijmohan Lall Munjal, saying that the late Hero MotoCorp Chairman emeritus showed passion, courage, perseverance, tenacity, agility and, above all, integrity.
“At a time when everyone just wanted to be on the safe side and not experiment, he questioned the status quo. He didn’t let anything get in the way of his passion and his vision, ”he said.
He went on to tell the graduates that they are privileged to be in an era where they can afford to “fail, learn quickly, and move on,” and asked them to allow themselves to dream big, to experiment in life “and create the world that” you want to live in. ”
“One secret sauce I want to share with you is that we are no longer in an era where we do it alone. My secret sauce is to connect, communicate and work together, ”he said.
