Four Indian officers selected to orbit as astronauts for the crew of Gaganyaan completed their year-long training in the Russian city of Zvyozdny Gorodok, near Moscow. The Gaganyaan mission aims to send astronauts into space in an orbital spaceship. “In the evening we met with Indian Gaganuts who had completed their training at the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center. We also discussed future bilateral space projects with the (Indian) ambassador,” said Dmitry Rogozin, the head of the Russian state space company, told his Telegram Channel, as quoted by Sputnik.
The contract for the training of Indian officers was signed in June 2019 between the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and the Russian launch service provider Glavcosmos. The four Indian Air Force (IAF) pilots include a group captain and three Wing Commanders among the IAF sources.
Training began on February 10, 2020 but was temporarily suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Previously, ISRO officials said that after training in Russia, these astronauts will now receive module-specific training in India. You will be trained in crew and service modules developed by ISRO, learn to operate it, bypass it and perform simulations.
The government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved £ 10,000 million for the Gaganyaan project.
Earlier this month, the Union’s Minister for Atomic Energy and Space, Jitendra Singh, said that ISRO’s Gaganyaan program was to send people into space.
In a statement put on the Rajya Sabha’s table in response to a question, the minister had said the aim of the program is to demonstrate the ability to put people aboard an Indian launch vehicle into Low Earth Orbit (LEO) to send and bring them back to earth safely.
“ISRO has extensive experience in technology areas related to launcher, spacecraft management and ground infrastructure, etc. and has taken steps to human evaluation of existing systems to ensure crew safety. India prides itself on the fact that there are many Indian scientists to do this.” significant work in collaboration with international institutions, “he added.
