Single mother Kia Cambridge from Wisconsin refuses to spend a dime where she doesn’t have to.

She says of TLC’s Extreme Cheapskates: “I like to use hair over floss. I know it sounds gross, but it just works, it’s a great system, and it doesn’t cost me anything. “
And with her 18-year-old son Alex, who will soon be flying the nest for college, Kia is looking to streamline her wallets even further.
One money-saving method that Kia swears by is to buy just one cup of coffee a week and reuse the same cup.
She explains: “Every Monday I go in, get my latte and bring it home. To save money, I usually buy a large mug and then ration it over three days. “

Kia will then warm her lipstick-stained cup of coffee over three days.
“After the third day you get this little film on top that you have to remove. It’s disgusting, but there are good things underneath, ”she says.
It’s not just her coffee that she rations. Kia keeps her chewed pieces of gum in the freezer to “preserve the taste”.
She says, “With this system, I don’t spend more than $ 10 a year on gum.”

Surprisingly, Kia likes to go out to eat with her son Alex every day and haul him to an all-you-can-eat buffet to make sure they literally get full.
She says, “Eating can be a distraction for other things we need to do.
“Alex and I will have a buffet once a day every day. We eat once a day and just pile it in. “
While Alex goes to college, Kia wants to use the empty nest and decides to sublet his room, forcing Alex to leave his furniture behind.

Kia then shares the apartment with potential tenants who will have to pay extra for the use of the kitchen, washing machine and dryer.
“I will miss my mother because she was very nice and good to me all the time here,” says Alex.
“But I will not miss your economical ways at all.”
