Home renovations don’t have to cost an arm and a leg, but even if you’re willing to save the money on a fancy new kitchen, there are some smart ways to get it working financially.
Just ask Natalie from Poulton Le Fylde, who spent four years saving for her dream kitchen and eventually swapped her dingy room for a bright and dreamy pink room.

With a few simple changes to her spending habits, she could pay for her dream kitchen
The 30-year-old shares her beautiful pink home on Instagram @thepinkterrace, where she documents the “never-ending renovation” of her Victorian terrace in the northwest.
Her old place has nowhere to eat as a family so she was desperately looking for an upgrade.
“We saved 4 years so that we could do it exactly how we wanted to. In order to save we cut our expenses massively, we had to spend a lot of money on childcare, but that was a priority so we had to make smart savings in other areas of our life, “Natalie told UK Radiators.

First, the mother said that by choosing “cheaper supermarkets or local shopping” they had become “more economical” with their supermarket stores.
The family also skimmed the holidays and set smaller budgets for Christmas and birthday gifts, which Natalie said “really helped us save.”
These small changes allowed Natalie to start her dream kitchen, but the cost-cutting methods continued throughout the renovation.
“We saved money by doing as much work ourselves as possible. My dad is a carpenter so he set up the kitchen for us and my husband is an electrician so he could rewire everything. He also taught himself how to lay tiles so that we can save money there too! ”She explained.
“I got stuck ripping out the kitchen, which was pretty fun, and I also did most of the painting myself.”
“We made the canopy wall ourselves, I had seen really expensive ones on the internet for around £ 280 but found some foliage from IKEA and was able to create a similar look for around £ 90!”
In addition, the thrifty mom is “always on the lookout for bargains and waits to go shopping until there is a promotional or coupon code”.
With that in mind, she was able to save 40% on her radiator, which was around £ 250, by ordering direct from the supplier rather than the plumber.
“Then we saved another £ 400 by using scraps of wood to build the end table ourselves,” she added.
Although Natalie was well versed with her build, she said they “had a lot of unexpected problems along the way,” which brought the total spend up to £ 9,000 thanks to a series of leaks.
Natalie’s top tips for renovating on a budget include: “Spend some time inside your home before deciding how to decorate it”.
She said, “We decorated rooms twice because we rushed it the first time!”
He added, “If you can do the job yourself then definitely give it a try! If it’s unskilled work like tearing things up or peeling wallpaper off, it can really save you labor costs!”
