I think it depends on what caused the lack of trust. If it’s a company / owner’s nasty treatment towards their employees, I think it’s difficult for me to come back to. Saying “sorry” is nowhere near enough and I don’t know – when it comes to things like systemic racism, an openly racist, anti-Semitic or sexually harassing environment that has been tolerated (or even encouraged) by the EU owner, sorry, it’s a no for me. Advancing unproven scientific or medical beliefs is another. I recently found out that a writer I really enjoyed is a virulent anti-vaxxer (she’s also done a lot of crooked financial things – tax evasion, breach of contract, etc.). As much as I’ve enjoyed her writing (I’m not sure if she’s recently written anything), I won’t buy or rent her books. Ditto Kat from D – she is free to represent her anti-vaccine beliefs, but do not try to use your voice as a makeup person to shove those beliefs down the throat of others. lululemon, the yoga and workout clothing company that charges $ 125 for a pair of lower quality leggings than I can get for $ 25 on Amazon, is another company I won’t buy from. When they moved their production to China, the quality dropped. Customers complained of embarrassingly see-through yoga pants and seams that parted in just a few tears, and the company insisted it was customer fault for buying under-sized pants. This went on for months and months, and they denied it had anything to do with them. I think they finally fought each other in a pretty namby pamby way, but what’s interesting is that none of it “got stuck” – they’re like a Teflon company. At the mall, they’re pretty much the only store where people have queued to get into the store for ages while other stores have no customers at all (we’re still at a stage where stores are increasing the number of stores Must limit Inside). The hypocrisy of this company has kept me from buying their things – one of their “mantras” – friends are more important than money – HA!
If it’s “just” about a loss of quality (and not about business practices and dealing with employees and customers), when a brand brings something good out (by Temptalia standards), I’m more than willing to give it another go. So if UD brings out something great and something I need, I’ll buy it.
