Guydrones has already established itself in North America and aims to transform agriculture in Guyana with the use of drone technology.

The company was launched on Friday after months of working with local authorities to obtain the necessary permits to move the process forward.

It comes after years of government and private sector discussions about how drone technology can replace a dwindling workforce not only in agriculture but also in construction and oil and gas.

Guydrones chief executive officer Rani Rama said although the company was formed overseas, she and her husband Ershad Mahamed have always had Guyana in their hearts as vice president of operations.

She said the technology has already proven successful in the United States and Canada and believes it will serve the local market well.

“The path ahead will be challenging … but we are here to make sure we do our job and go beyond,” she said while welcoming the Lusignan Gold Club.

Mahamed, who is a pilot and has worked with drone technology for several years, was enthusiastic about the prospects.

With the Agras T20 and the P4 Multispeed, the company will initially offer a range of services in the agricultural sector.

This includes cross-monitoring, surveying, data mapping, environmental monitoring and prospecting.

According to him, the great advantages of using drone technology in agriculture include greater efficiency and lower costs.

The establishment of the company received full government approval, with George Jarvis assuring the Ministry of Agriculture’s full support as a technical officer in the Department of Agriculture.

He said with reduced ambition to get people to work in agriculture, the introduction of this type of technology is important to ensure precise mechanized agriculture.

“It’s a good innovation and we at the Department of Agriculture will support it as much as possible … it certainly offers a competitive advantage,” said Jarvis.

The company also received confirmation from Go-Invest boss Peter Ramsaroop.

In recent months, Guydrones has become increasingly important in the Guyana agricultural market. Innovative precision farming technology is increasingly being used on Guyana farms and Guydrones is leading the way in serving this market with airborne surveying / data collection and analysis.

Guydrones is currently looking for motivated, energetic team members to help with its remote-controlled aircraft systems.
