Purple Plum (520)

Guerlain Mauve Plum (520) Rouge G Luxurious velvet lipstick ($ 34.00 for 0.12 oz.) Is a medium-dark berry with cool undertones and a matte finish. It was rich in pigmentation with a smooth, velvety texture that felt light and thin without being clingy or tending to emphasize the texture of the lips.

The lipstick was applied evenly and smoothly to my lips and has worn well for six hours (out of 16 hours marketed!). There was a small stain left and it felt slightly moisturizing when worn.

Formula overview

$ 34.00 / 0.12 oz. – $ 283.33 an ounce

The new finish is described as “velvet matt” with “extraordinary softness, depth of color” and is “long-lasting” with “16-hours comfort and wear”. The color coverage should be “highly pigmented” and “slide easily”.

Most of the shades available were highly pigmented as marketed with an even, smooth coverage that didn’t tend to emphasize lip texture, lines, or imperfections. The texture was smooth, moderately dense, but not thick, so it was light to the touch (but not clingy). Most shades – at the time of review – are more like medium or deep, but the lightest shades I tested tended to stick to my lip lines over time.

The big “downside” is that they don’t wear nearly 16 hours; that would be a big question for any lipstick formula, let alone a traditional spherical formula like this one. They have a longer than average shelf life, with many shades reaching a solid shelf life of six hours with slight stains left behind. The formula was comfortable to wear and slightly moisturizing overall.

They have a floral scent that was noticeable on the lips and I had a slight floral scent while eating / drinking.

Please note that Rouge Gs are now refillable so the price reflects the cost of the lipstick itself, but not the lipstick holder (which is $ 37.50 and comes in a variety of designs). Personally, I keep mine with the refill cap, which is great for home storage but wouldn’t be ideal for someone who carries it in their pocket or who travels frequently.

Deep Pink (525)

Guerlain Deep Pink (525) Rouge G Luxurious velvet lipstick ($ 34.00 for 0.12 oz.) Is a light raspberry pink with subtle, cool undertones and a matte finish. It had a semi-opaque, buildable color cover paired with a smooth, velvety consistency that was light, slightly thin, but non-sticky and comfortable to apply and wear.

The only “downside” was that the brand took 16 hours to wear and lasted six hours (with a slight stain). The formula felt slightly moisturizing overall.
