New Delhi: Google is reportedly planning to build a campus to house a huge hardware hub in Silicon Valley. Named Midpoint, the campus will have 20 percent office space and 80 percent space focused on equipment manufacturing, storage, distribution, and other purposes, according to a CNBC report on Saturday.

Google has purchased land in northern San Jose, California and spent more than $ 389 million on the five-building hardware research and development center.

“It will be adjacent to three industrial buildings that, according to several planning documents, will house some operations for its hardware division, including Nest products,” the report said.

The company’s hardware boss, Rick Osterloh, recently said Google was ready to cause a sensation in the hardware space.

The company currently has an impressive range of hardware including Nest smart home speakers, flagship Pixel smartphones and the PixelBook laptops.

Last week, Google announced that it had developed its own bespoke chip to power the next generation of Pixel 6 smartphones, which will hit the market later this year.

The AI-enabled system on a chip (SoC) called Tensor was specially developed for Pixel phones.
