To support the microblogging platform with data processing and analysis based on machine learning tools, Google has signed a multi-year contract with Twitter.
In 2018, Twitter decided to partner with Google Cloud to move its cold data storage and its flexible compute Hadoop clusters to Google Cloud Platform (GCP) so the company can improve the experience and productivity of its development teams working with its data platform work.
In a statement Thursday, Parag Agrawal, CTO of Twitter, said, “Our first partnership with Google Cloud has been successful and has allowed us to increase the productivity of our development teams.”
“When we build on this relationship and Google’s technologies, we can learn more from our data, move faster and deliver more relevant content to the people who use our service every day,” he added.
The Hadoop computer system is the core of Twitter’s data platform, and Twitter runs several large Hadoop clusters that are among the largest in the world.
The migration enables faster capacity provisioning, more flexibility, access to a broader ecosystem of tools and services, improvements in security and improved disaster recovery capabilities.
In a previous statement, Agrawal said, “Architecturally, we will also be able to separate computation and storage for this class of Hadoop workloads, which offers a number of long-term scaling and operational benefits.”
The data solutions and trusted infrastructure of the Google Cloud Platform provide Twitter with the technical flexibility and consistency the platform requires.
