New Delhi: The Karnataka Supreme Court on Wednesday (September 8th) dismissed a petition to initiate legal proceedings along with a fine against Google’s Indian division for a search result showing Kannada as the “ugliest” language. A department bank owned by Acting Supreme Judge Satish Chandra Sharma and Judge Sachin Shankar Magadum handled the matter.
“The petition was tabled against both Google India Private Limited and other respondents who stated that some derogatory remarks were made on Google regarding the Kannada language, the petitioner himself filing a copy of the newspaper clipping. The allegation the petitioner says that Google India later apologized on the matter in relation to the content displayed on the website and given assurances that such incidents will not occur in the future, “the bank was quoted by LiveLaw as saying.
The petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Council of India Trust was withdrawn after Google India filed an apology for misunderstanding and hurting people’s feelings on June 3rd on June 3rd. The petition had requested legal action against Google India by the central government as well as the state government under IPC and IT law. The petitioners had also requested compensation of Rs 10 crore for tainting the dignity of the Kannada language.
