NINTENDO’s new console was released today, but not everyone believes it’s a worthwhile investment.
The Nintendo Switch OLED doesn’t offer the 4K gaming experience that was originally rumored when a new model first emerged.

Instead, it offers some incremental upgrades and a larger OLED display, as well as a new wired LAN port in the dock.
The specs met with mixed reception, with the Twitterverse infiltrating the new console.
It has been labeled “pointless” and “a waste of money” while calling out Nintendo fans who are tempted to upgrade as well.
“I thought most people canceled their pre-orders for old switches when they realized it was pointless,” said a Twitter user.
“Is someone going to waste their money on a switch OLED? Because I’m not lmao,” said another.
The Nintendo Switch OLED is currently the most expensive model.
The price difference became even more apparent after Europeans received a permanent price cut on the original Switch model.
You can check out the differences in specs in our Nintendo Switch OLED vs Switch vs Switch Lite confrontation, but here is the price of all three consoles:
- Nintendo Switch – £ 259.99 / $ 299.99
- Nintendo Switch Lite – £ 199 / $ 199.99
- New Nintendo Switch OLED – £ 309.99 / $ 349.99
“OLED switch is pointless to me, lol,” cut in someone else on a Metroid Dread thread.
That feeling seems to be reflected on Twitter, with another user saying:
“Switching the OLED model is really pointless, but I can see hardcore Nintendo fans hype it just because it’s the newest model.”
That, of course, misses the point. Of course, if you already have a starter Switch model, there is no need to lose £ 309.99 / $ 349.99 on an OLED model.
But it comes with a number of upgrades that make it a must-have if you don’t already have one.
It’s the best model available right now, so why not spend the extra cash on better hardware?
If you don’t have hundreds of pounds to burn off, or just don’t care about the bigger and better display, then do it.
“Do I know the switch is a waste of money?” Added another person. “Yes. Do I still want it? Yes. Will I get it? Absolutely not.”
This Twitter contingent confuses a product that they “don’t need” with “a waste of money”.
If you have the money to spend, an appreciation for tech and gaming, and use your Switch regularly, the Switch OLED is well worth considering.
Faced with the choice between the three modes, there is enough to justify the overhead of the OLED model.
