“The bad thing is that we have run out of money. The good thing is that we have had a lot of restoration and more to do, ”said Michael Brown, DPW director for the city of Flint. The city isn’t sure how much it will cost to complete the repairs.

“Goyette started 2019, 7-22 of 19, and ran out of money this year. In 21, ”said Brown.

Brown said condominium repairs on Flint’s line cost more than the city expected. Goyette Mechanical, which previously took care of the job, has used up its funds to further repair the city.

In the past few years, Goyette has received roughly $ 6 million to repair things like sidewalks and driveways. Brown said more people are choosing to make these changes.

He’s not sure how much more the work will cost to complete, but says an estimate of around $ 11 million would be on the high end of the total construction price.

“We’ll see what that is as soon as we get there and replace all the leads. Then we can have an exact amount of what we are going to spend. A home cost an average of $ 1,300 to repair. It doesn’t matter if it’s just sidewalk spaces or driveways or a combination of all of the above, “said Brown.

Brown said they set aside a pot of money for the project and they are seeking advice to approve more money to continue the restoration work, but when that will be is still unknown.

“I think they originally thought there was enough money to take care of all the houses. And restorations that have been made. It’s not a problem, but we’ve had a lot more people doing it, and since we’ve had so many people in town doing this, we need to find enough money to take care of it, ”said Brown.
