New Delhi: Facebook said Friday it is working on Instagram for children under 13, where parents will have controls just like Messenger Kids.
Instagram head Adam Mosseri said a version of the popular photo sharing app is currently being investigated.
“Children are increasingly asking their parents if they can join apps that help them keep up with their friends,” Mosseri said in a tweet.
“A version of Instagram where parents are in control like we did with Messenger Kids is something we’re investigating. We’ll share more later,” he added.
Mosseri oversees the Instagram for Kids project with Vice President Pavni Diwanji.
Facebook launched the messenger chat platform for children between the ages of 6 and 12 in 2017.
Earlier this week, Instagram announced that it was rolling out a new feature preventing adults from sending messages to anyone under the age of 18 who did not follow them.
“We have banned adults from directing direct messages to teenagers who do not follow them and introduced ‘safety instructions’ to be displayed to teenagers if they are DM adults who are ‘displaying potentially suspicious behavior,'” Instagram said in a statement.
The company said suspicious behavior could include sending “large numbers of friendship or message requests to anyone under the age of 18”.
Safety instructions give teen users the ability to report or block adults sending them messages.
Instagram also announced a new guide for parents with seasoned partners for additional countries, including India.
Instagram has over 1 billion monthly active users worldwide.
