The Farmers Insurance Open gives players an early glimpse into the Torrey Pines course, which will also host the US Open in June. Marc Leishman arrives as defending champion after his one-shot win over Jon Rahm last year. Rory McIlroy has finished in the top five of this event for the past two years and wants to impress again. He says, “It’s great to be back.”
He added: “Looking ahead to June and the US Open here, too, it will be nice if at least it is freshly remembered.
“I think it’s a wonderful layout for a big championship. It basically holds up to the most elite level of golf we play, the toughest test we face for the most part all year.
“I’m not really going to think about what they’re going to do (with setting up the course in June) because all I have to do is play the golf course that’s ahead of me this week.
“I would expect the rough to be a little higher and the greens a little firmer, a little more precise this week than maybe this week, but it’s not like you’re not trying to hit.” the fairways this week too.
