The woman, who can be seen on reality TV, reveals that she is also getting her ex-husband to clean her house for free and refuses to wash cutlery with water.

Despite having a net worth of $ 5.3 million ($ 7 million), Aimee Elizabeth refuses to exceed her monthly budget of $ 1,000 ($ 1,300).

The self-confessed “cheapest multimillionaire in the world” refuses to spend money where she doesn’t have to and even eats cat food to keep her grocery bills low.

Aimee, 50, from Las Vegas, featured on TLC’s Extreme Cheapskates, has found ways to save money in every aspect of her life.

“I keep my water heater off. It takes 22 minutes to heat it up enough to take a shower. That’s why I turn it on every morning when I get up,” she says on the show.

“I set it to 22 minutes so I know exactly when my shower will be ready because God forbids me to waste another minute on that water heater.”

It may seem petty, but Aimee claims it will save her $ 80 ($ 105) a month.

In fact, Aimee is saving a total of $ 200,000 ($ 260,000) a year by refusing to buy anything new.

She uses the same washing-up sponge until it falls to pieces and only uses a knife that she doesn’t want to wash off with water.

Her home is posh, but that left that up to her ex-husband Michael Murrey at her divorce, who knew she would be moving into a “shack” to save money.

And Michael is still very knowledgeable and volunteers to clean the house for free so Aimee can save $ 400 ($ 520) in cleaning fees.

Perhaps Aimee’s most frugal habit is to feed herself (and guests) cat food so she can save US30c (A40c) on tuna.

Aimee’s job often requires her to travel to LA, but instead of spending $ 250 ($ A326) on a flight, she drives four hours each way in her 17-year-old car.

She adds, “When I go to these extremes I think people see it and it annoys a lot of them, but I don’t care.

“That saves money. You don’t understand, I don’t know how to talk to you. “
