Chennai, October 1 (IANS) The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) raided 38 government offices across the state. The raids were carried out on clues and the agency seized Rs 26.99.335 in cash from the various offices.
The DVAC said in a press release that the raids were carried out on Thursday.
The raids took place at sub-registration offices in Mylapore, Anna Nagar, Villivakkam, Ambattur and Thiruvanmiyur, as well as several other offices in many parts of the state. The regional traffic office in Ambattur and several other districts were also searched. Unknown money and several corruption documents were confiscated.
According to the information available, the agency will continue the raids in the coming days. Sources at the agency said many documents seized from these premises revealed unproven cash deposits and real estate in various locations around the state.
According to the agency, there should be further raids based on the information during the raids on Thursday.
It should be noted that the DVAC raided the premises of former ministers of the previous AIADMK government – MR Vijayabhaskar, SP Velumani and KC Veeramani – shortly after the DMK government under MK Stalin came to power.
Sources said the DVAC raids on Thursday came based on information obtained during the initial raids on former ministers’ offices. The agency was following up on leads received during Thursday’s raids to further investigate the parked money, sources added.
