Patna, April 13 (IANS) Cyber criminals allegedly set up a fake Facebook account on behalf of Bihar’s Cabinet Minister Subhash Singh and demanded money from his followers, an official said Tuesday.
The incident came to light when one of the victims, Nilesh Kumar Mishra, a resident of Tiwari Mathania village in the Gopalganj district of Bihar, was asked to pay 50,000 rupees through Subhash Singh’s Facebook account.
“We immediately contacted the cabinet minister’s clerks and inquired about the matter. I relied on the minister not to ask anyone for money. Then I complained about the incident involving the Gopalganj cyber cell. I also have a text complaint sent to Gopalganj Superintendent of Police Anand Kumar, “Mishra said.
“I received a friend request on Sunday from the Facebook ID of the State Minister of the Subhash Singh Cooperative, which I accepted. The next day someone from the other side was talking to me. During the process, he informed me that he was nearby was to the minister of the cooperative, Subhash Singh. Since his net banking does not work for a few days, he needs 50,000 rupees immediately, “said Mishra.
“I complained to the local police because this person was suspicious,” he said.
“We received a complaint about this and the case was immediately referred to the cyber cell for thorough investigation,” said Anand Kumar, SP of Gopalganj District.
