Facebook, a social media platform, isn’t a very private place. Everyone has access to everything on the portal, from pictures and names to more sensitive information like phone numbers, addresses and in some cases email addresses. While the goal is to keep individuals in touch, the system has several serious privacy flaws.
People can use a tool provided by Facebook to block their Facebook profiles. Strangers cannot access information about you when you lock your profile, including the About page, pictures, articles, and new posts on the timeline. Only those who are friends with the person can see all “public” updates of a blocked profile.
Given that most of the users use profile locking, and given the lack of privacy in today’s connected society, let us tell you how to lock your Facebook profile and get rid of stalkers.
Android users
Step 1: Open the Facebook app and tap the three-dot menu icon next to “Add to story”
Step 2: Select the Lock Profile option. It shows instructions on how to lock a profile.
Step 3: A pop-up window will say “You have locked your profile” which means it is ready.
There is currently no option to lock profiles in the iOS Facebook app, but you can do so through the web version.
Lock profile on desktop
Step 1: Go to https://www.facebook.com and click on your profile
Step 2: Replace “www” with “m” in the URL (the URL should be m.facebook.com/profilename). This will open the mobile site in the desktop browser.
Step 3: edit your profile button, click the three dot menu
Step 4: Select Lock Profile and click OK. Now click on the Lock Profile option.
If you would like to “unblock” something in the future, you can do this with your profile on Facebook. To unlock your profile, follow the steps above and select “Unlock Your Profile” if you want to go that route.
