New Delhi: Millions of clubhouse user phone numbers have allegedly been leaked and are for sale on the dark web. The data set of the popular audio chat app only shows cell phone numbers and no other information. “A database of phone numbers for #clubhouse users is for sale on #Darknet,” tweeted cybersecurity leader Jiten Jain.
“It also includes the number of people in the user’s phone books who were synchronized. So chances are, even if you didn’t have a clubhouse login, you would be listed, ”added Jain.
The audio chat app has yet to confirm the alleged data leak. According to independent security researcher Rajshekhar Rajaharia, the hacker is selling alleged clubhouse data that only contains cell phone numbers without names.
“There are no names, photos or other details available. This list of phone numbers can be created very easily. The claim that there are data leaks appears to be fake, ”Rajaharia told IANS.
In February of this year, researchers at Stanford University in the USA warned that the app might pass on audio data from users to the Chinese government.
The Stanford Internet Observatory (SIO) claimed that Agora, a Shanghai-based provider of real-time engagement software, provided the back-end infrastructure for the clubhouse app.
