His mother, Ashley Fannin, a pediatric hematology / oncology nurse, was in a position she never thought she would be. Mason Fannin holds the North Carolina / Virginia Region Boy of the Year award from the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. His life changed in 2019 with a trip to a hospital emergency room that led to his diagnosis of leukemia.

Mason is in remission and his treatment is scheduled to end in May 2022. However, he’s still working to raise $ 5,000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. For the past two years, Mason has had a port placement, three bone marrow biopsies, 23 emergency rooms, two ambulance trips, 76 nights in the hospital, 16 blood transfusions, 58 clinic visits, 24 lumbar punctures, a relapse anxiety, physical therapy, and more chemotherapy, blood draws, and steroids than the family can remember can.
