Bite Beauty Power Move Soft Matte Lipstick ($ 28.00 for 0.14 oz.) Is a new line of lipsticks that includes 20 shades. The formula should be “creamy, not drying out” with “lightfast”[ce]”And“ velvet matt ”finish that delivers“ strong color ”. The line also starts online tomorrow at SephoraSephora for in-app and on July 12th for online.
It’s the long-awaited replacement for the earlier Amuse Bouche range, although what they have most in common is that they are both twist-up, traditional lipsticks, but the finish and feel are quite different. My first impression, after looking through the 14 shades I received as print samples and testing a few (so far), is that the formula is the more modern, silicone-heavy type that has a mostly matte finish, feels relatively light to the touch but up to date is thinner side and less forgiving of lip texture / imperfections. As expected, the lighter shades were the least flattering while the darker shades were the most flattering.
According to the brand, it’s “three years in the making” and they’ve tested “over 100 different formulas” (not the flex they think it is; sounds like something went very, very wrong!). If you’ve loved amuse bouche for its creaminess and more of a cream-satin finish (i.e., some sheen), these may not feel like a substitute. If you’ve always found Amuse Bouche to be too creamy and wanted it more matt, this could be an upgrade.
Amuse Bouche was one of my favorite recipes for years, but I loved it because of the intense, creamy color with a silky sheen that still had good adhesion / wearing time, so it was unfortunately not “worth” the wait for me. I know MAC’s Powder Kiss Lipsticks have become hugely popular so I can see why they went in that direction and I expect some to fall in love again!
