The in-person meeting of the Healthcare Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS) in August 2021 was the first ray of hope at the end of a long tunnel in the COVID-19 pandemic a few months ago – the industry’s first sign that things were starting back to normal. It only seemed fitting that this was the first major medical meeting in over a year, as it was the first major conference to be canceled just days before its start in 2020 due to the pandemic outbreak.

The return of the annual meeting of the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) followed in October and the return of the annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) in Chicago in November. If the pattern set by HIMSS21 is an indication, it is likely that RSNA21 will see fewer attendees and exhibitors. For attendees, however, this likely means more meaningful discussions with educators and colleagues, and more focused exhibition space.

“RSNA 2021 will be a long-awaited opportunity to meet again with colleagues from near and far, experience a wealth of educational opportunities, and explore the latest discoveries and technological advances in medical imaging research,” said RSNA President Mary C. Mahoney , MD, in their online welcome back for participants and exhibitors.

The theme this year is Redefining Radiology. RSNA 2021 will highlight new ideas and technologies that are redefining what it is to work as a radiologist. This topic will be introduced at the inaugural session held at the Arie Crown Theater on McCormick Place on Sunday, November 28th at 4 p.m. CT, when Mahoney and James Merlino, MD discuss the new ideas and technologies that are redefining what they mean be a radiologist today. With more than 2,000 speakers, a variety of science, educational and CME opportunities, and a plenary program highlighting current topics in radiology, RSNA 2021 will showcase the new ideas and technologies that are redefining the future of the field. Stop by booth 1848 in the south hall and tell us about the trends and new ideas that you will discover at the conference.
